Dean / Home Tutor In High Wycombe

I have a proven track record in delivering successful teaching and learning to students at Key Stages Three, Four and Five. At Key Stage Three I can provide robust assessment data recorded over the whole academic year that demonstrates the outstanding progress of students, who achieve higher than the expected three sub-levels of progress over the academic year. At Key Stage Four I can demonstrate that my students make excellent progress across the range of abilities: the students in my year 10 class reached their target grades in tests, all students achieving an A or B. All students in my top set year 11 class achieved A* or A in their mock exams. I can show that all of my aiming-for-a-C class actually achieved a C at GCSE. I have been gaining additional experience in teaching A Level over three years including C1, C2, S1, D1, M1 and M2. At Key Stage Five all my year 12 students achieved their target grades in C1 and C2.
Evidence to support this application in the form of written lesson observations, where I have been graded good in all aspects, is available on request.

Teaching Approach/Style

My approach to teaching is firmly underpinned by my belief that children s experiences of education should be positive and that a primary role of the teacher is to help the pupil become a self-motivated and independent learner. I am committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all and value the difference that children with a wide range of abilities and cultural experiences can bring to the learning environment.
I use praise and rewards regularly and consistently to motivate and encourage students to achieve their best and to develop high self-esteem. I believe in the importance of displaying children s work in an interactive manner as a way of recognising achievement, reflecting the important role of the pupils own work in the learning process.
I am a teacher because I enjoy hard work and helping others to achieve success. I want my students to experience meaningful, interesting learning that applies to their lives. I believe this can be accomplished through the use of hands-on/minds-on activities, co-operative learning, an integrated curriculum, and technology and the internet.
As an experienced Engineer and Scientist I have learnt skills of organisation, administration and time management relevant to a teaching career, as well as further communication skills involved with meeting individuals and representatives. I am flexible and adapt readily to changing circumstances as required. I use my industry experience to make learning relevant to a child s future by relating mathematical topics to the workplace. I have developed a solid foundation on which to build a career in the teaching profession and I look forward to continuing my professional development throughout my teaching career.
