Andrew / Home Tutor In Addlestone

I am an enthusiastic tutor with 5 years experience, visiting students in their homes and also developing an online tutoring service in parallel. I have numerous testimonials from students who have enjoyed and benefitted from my tutoring sessions.

My education has included learning Latin from the age of 10, largely at the hands of Oxbridge-educated schoolmasters. I didn t train as a teacher when I was younger, opting for a career in finance, and later, publishing. This included editing books for Harper Collins and having articles published worldwide in the Encyclopaedia Britannica, for whom I also worked as Sports Editor of their Junior Yearbook. I have also written advertising copy.

Teaching Approach/Style

I really enjoy guiding students towards their 11+, SATs and school entrance exams. There is a considerable element of technique involved in ensuring the highest possible marks are achieved. Students at that age respond to tuition which is carefully explained and also incorporates an element of fun and challenges which boost their confidence.

Recent successes include a student achieving 120/120 in the English section of his SATs test and 116/120 in Maths. I also tutored an autistic boy who hardly spoke, but was offered a place at an independent school after we had spent several months together (he had initially rejected several other tutors).

Other successes are less simple to quantify but helping children to solve problems and become more self-confident is a success in my books. I find it immensely satisfying when a student says, Andrew, I understand that now!
