Sean / Home Tutor In Aylesbury

I am experienced in teaching and mentoring my peers (who have sought my help) as well as younger cohorts, giving them confidence and direction in school and life.

- Tutoring my younger brother through GCSEs and A-Levels; mentoring him proactively throughout the last decade
- Tutoring my parent though nursing degree
- Tutorng younger students at school (group class environment)
- Tutoring younger year groups at university/medical school
- Mentored and nannied two young boys (8 + 10yrs) with their homework and schoolwork whilst studying at uni.

**RE: Medical school admissions mentoring**
I've been through the process myself, getting into a top 10 world medical school, and have advised many students in lower age groups at school and as well as family/friends.
* I was a founding member of my school's student-run medical society and return to speak intermittently.
* I particularly provide advice that I honestly feel every student needs to hear (but nobody seems to say) regarding avoiding the rat race of the traditional medical school pipeline, which everybody seems to be caught up in.
* I mentor in a way that avoids the stress, anxiety and mental health woes that the mainline method creates and focus on how to live life to the full throughout these crucial years.

As I mention later on, it takes time to talk these things out and flesh out big topics such as this, and truly tailor advice/help to a mentee. This will usually take 4-6 sessions, after which I could carry on as a 'remote' mentor, for free, throughout their applications/university life.

**RE: Military Career applications for the curious**
**I was always curious about a potential career in the military thoughout school but had no clue where to start,** as the only way to find out more was starting a genuine application! Scary and daunting for a young person, **who is simply curious.** I had no family background or family friends with any links to the British military and I would have loved some help.

* I want to change that by being a **friendly, impartial spokesperson and mentor** for anyone considering a career in the military.

* Now, I'm in a position to be able to tell you the huge benefits (as well as potentially major drawbacks) from life in each of the branches and careers (or connect you to a fellow friend who can tell you exactly that) as someone who has done a lot of legwork over the last 3 years trying to figure out which service branch I would want to commit to (if any of them at all).

* Equally, I have contacts in all three branches of students going through (and also those who have made it through) the application mill for RAF Pilots, Royal Navy Pilots, Intelligence officers, infantry, cavalry and logistics officers, as well as those in officer college now (Sandhurst, Dartmouth or Cranwell) among many more.

* Regarding my background, I have been keen to join the military as a doctor and have throughly looked into all 3 branches of the British Military. I am going/have gone though all 3 application processes, done the fitness tests, interviews, applications, etc. I have looked into the non-medical career paths of the RAF, Army and Royal Marines as well - potential back ups for me if I decided medicine was no longer my path in life. I joined the Army as a student reservist (London's OTC) for a year but I am now currently going into my third year as an RAF Volunteer Reservist (Student - London's UAS) and am strongly considering a Medical career in the Navy as a result.

It takes time to talk these things out and flesh out these big topics (in a way that is tailored towards a mentee), and truly tailor advice to a mentee. I imagine it would take 4-6 sessions, after which I could carry on as a 'remote' mentor, for free, throughout their applications/university life.

I simply would like to give the **curious**; more tailored, useful information and the **keen**; help to start their journey in the BEST WAY possible (through university, etc).

Teaching Approach/Style

I encourage students to be vocal with what they truly want and need (genuinely thinking about it beforehand) and provide honest feedback at the end of each session as to how they feel they are progressing. This is a safe space to say 'I don't get any of it', 'I'm a bit lost', 'please can you explain that last bit again?', etc; to think out loud without that fear of judgement from peers.

My approach is very student-focused and incredibly flexible to the students' needs - thus will vary depending on what we jointly feel will bring the greatest returns.

I'm proud to say; I do (and will) go above and beyond (in preparation and in-session) to make sure the student has truly understood the topics at hand and got what they wanted out of their time with me.

Effectively, I give to you what I wish I had when I was studying at school.
